How I Help
Positioning, Photography, Written Content & Websites
For lodges, destinations, specialist tour operators and conservation organisations that need clearer positioning, original photography, stronger content or a more professional website.
A STRONGER EXPRESSION OF WHAT MAKES YOU DISTINCTIVE
Clarity before noise. Story rooted in place. Work shaped around what you actually need.
I bring together positioning, photography, writing and website development to help distinctive places and specialist businesses present themselves more clearly. The work may address one focused need or bring several elements together where a broader improvement would create greater value.

Who this is for: Lodges, retreats, boutique hotels, specialist tour operators, conservation projects, wildlife organisations and distinctive destinations shaped by nature, place or experience.
What I help with: Clearer positioning and messaging, original photography, written stories, and professional website content, builds or overhauls.
How projects can work: This may involve a single photography or story commission, help defining the business’s niche and central message, improvements to selected website pages, or a more complete redevelopment of how the business is presented.
The intended result: To help people understand who you are, recognise what makes the place or service distinctive, and feel confident choosing, visiting or contacting you.
Based in: Cape Town, South Africa, with selected projects undertaken further afield.
Why This Matters
People often form an impression long before they make contact, book or visit.
They notice the photography, the words, the clarity of the message and how confidently a place or service explains what makes it worth choosing.
A remarkable lodge can appear ordinary when its images feel generic. A specialist tour operator can inspire less confidence when its expertise is not clearly expressed. An established destination may already have a strong presence but still need fresh photography, a written story or more focused content for a particular purpose.
For smaller or emerging businesses, the challenge may begin earlier: their niche, value or point of difference has not yet been clearly defined.
I help identify what is not translating and apply the right level of support—from clearer positioning and original photography to stronger written content, selected website improvements or a complete new website.
The aim is a more credible and distinctive presentation of who you are, what you offer and why people should choose you.
Who This Work Is For
Lodges, Retreats and Distinctive Stays
Places that need stronger photography, clearer content, a better website or a more coherent expression of their character, quality and guest experience.
Specialist Tour Operators and Experience-Led Businesses
Operators that need to define their niche, communicate their expertise and present their tours or services with greater clarity and credibility.
Conservation Organisations and Wildlife Projects
Organisations that need thoughtful photography and storytelling to communicate their purpose, impact, projects or visitor experience.
Established Destinations and Place-Led Businesses
Hotels, reserves, heritage properties and other established places that need a focused photography or writing commission, campaign feature, website improvement or fresh body of content.
Smaller or Emerging Place-Led Businesses
New lodges, local operators, community ventures and emerging destinations that need help establishing their positioning, original content and first professional online presence.
The scale of the work depends on what is already in place. Some clients need one focused commission; others need help bringing their positioning, photography, written content and website together more coherently.
HOW I HELP
WAYS TO WORK TOGETHER
Not every project needs the same level of involvement. Some clients need one focused commission, while others need help bringing their positioning, photography, written content and website together more coherently.
The work can therefore begin with a clearly defined need or develop into a broader creative partnership.
01 — Website and Online Presence
For places and specialist businesses that need a new website or a substantial improvement to an existing one.
The work begins by clarifying what makes the organisation distinctive, who it needs to reach and what visitors need to understand. From there, I can help shape the structure, written content, original photography and overall presentation into a more credible and effective online presence.
This may include:
positioning and core messaging;
website structure and content planning;
original photography;
website copy and place-led stories;
a new Squarespace website;
a substantial refresh or overhaul of an existing site.
02 — Focused Photography and Written-Story Commissions
For established places and organisations that do not need wider involvement but require a strong, original body of work for a specific purpose.
A commission may centre on photography, writing or a considered combination of both.
This may include:
place, wildlife, landscape or people-led photography;
a written place story or editorial feature;
a new image library for a website or campaign;
photography and copy for a particular page, publication or project;
selected content developed around a launch, season or milestone.
03 — Ongoing Creative Support
For organisations that need a more consistent flow of original photography, stories and website content over time.
This can provide continuity without requiring a large agency arrangement or a complete redevelopment of the organisation’s presence.
This may include:
regular photography commissions;
new stories, articles and website content;
seasonal or campaign-led material;
updates to key website pages;
ongoing creative review and direction;
support keeping the organisation’s presentation clear, current and coherent.
MEET ADAM
Creative judgement backed by business experience
I am a Cape Town-based photographer, writer and creative partner. My work begins with close observation — of place, atmosphere, people and the details that shape how something is seen and understood.
Alongside my creative practice, I bring more than two decades of experience building and leading an international service business. That experience has taught me how organisations earn trust, explain their value, understand their audiences and present services clearly online.
This combination allows me to look beyond an individual photograph, story or webpage. I can help identify what is not translating, clarify the message, create the necessary images and written content, and shape the website or wider presentation around what the organisation genuinely needs.
I work independently and collaboratively, without trying to replicate a large agency. Where a project requires specialist development, branding or technical expertise beyond my scope, I can work alongside the client’s existing team or an appropriate specialist.
The aim is thoughtful, useful work rooted in the real character of the place or organisation — not a generic marketing treatment.
PROCESS
A Clear, Considered Process
Every project begins by understanding what is already in place, what is not translating clearly and what would create the greatest value.
The scope may be a focused photography or writing commission, a new or substantially improved website, or a broader combination of positioning, content and creative work. In each case, the process is agreed before the work begins.
STEP 1ENQUIRY AND FIT
We begin with a short conversation about your place or organisation, what you would like to improve and what you believe may be needed.
This helps us establish whether the project is a good fit and whether the requirement is already clear or would benefit from further review.
STEP 2REVIEW AND PROPOSAL
I review the relevant material, which may include your existing website, photography, written content, audience, offer and current presentation.
You then receive a clear proposal setting out the recommended approach, scope of work, deliverables, timing and cost.
STEP 3 CREATE AND DEVELOP
Once the scope is agreed, the creative work begins.
Depending on the project, this may involve positioning and messaging, photography, written content, website planning, a Squarespace website build or a substantial improvement to an existing site.
The work is shared at agreed stages so that important decisions can be reviewed before the project moves too far forward.
STEP 4 REFINE AND DELIVER
The completed work is reviewed and the agreed refinements are made.
Final photography, written content or other materials are prepared for use. Where the project includes a website, the completed site is checked carefully before publication or handover.
Where continuing support would be useful, the next phase can be agreed separately rather than assumed from the outset.
The process is shaped around the work required. A focused commission can remain focused, while a broader project can bring several elements together where that creates greater value.
OPTIONAL STARTING POINT
Not Sure Where to Begin?
Positioning & Message Review
A focused review for places and specialist businesses that know their current website, photography or written content is not fully expressing their value, but are unsure what should change first.
I assess how the organisation is currently presented, what a prospective visitor or client is likely to understand, where confidence may be lost and whether the real point of difference is being communicated clearly.
The review can be commissioned as a standalone piece of work. It can also provide the foundation for a later website, photography or content project, but no further work is assumed.
What I Review
Your positioning, niche and central message
The structure and clarity of your existing website
Photography and overall visual consistency
Written content, tone and strength of explanation
How clearly your offer and next step are presented
Gaps between the real experience and its online presentation
What You Receive
A focused written assessment of the current presentation
A clear explanation of what is working and what is not translating
Priority recommendations rather than a long general wish list
A practical sequence showing what should be improved first
Guidance on whether photography, writing, website work or a combination would create the greatest value
A clearer basis for a future brief, proposal or independent action
The purpose is not to recommend more work than necessary. It is to identify the changes most likely to improve clarity, credibility and the way the place or organisation is understood.
SELECTED WORK
See the Approach in Practice
The examples below show how observation, original photography and written narrative can reveal the character of a place.
They also provide a sense of the visual judgement and storytelling approach I bring to photography, content and wider creative projects.
01 — Arniston / Waenhuiskrans
A Place Story
A photographic and written exploration of a South African coastal village, shaped around its atmosphere, history, working harbour and quieter everyday details.
The story demonstrates how original images and considered narrative can present a distinctive place with greater depth than a conventional gallery or destination description alone.
02 — Photography Portfolio
Selected fine-art photography exploring wildlife, birdlife, coast and the character of place.
The portfolio provides a broader view of my photographic style, including atmosphere, movement, behaviour, landscape and carefully observed moments.
03 — Stories and Perspectives
Writing from the field, thoughtful perspectives and practical guides across photography, place, storytelling and creative presence.
These articles show how I develop a subject beyond the image itself, whether through narrative, interpretation or useful information.
Frequently Asked Questions
A few practical answers before you get in touch.
-
No. You may already know that you need new photography, a written story or a website overhaul. You may simply feel that the current presentation does not reflect the quality of the business.
I will help identify whether the most useful next step is a focused commission, a review of the positioning and message, selected website improvements or a broader website and content project.
-
Yes. An established hotel, destination, lodge or organisation may already have a strong online presence and simply need a fresh collection of original images, a written feature, a place story or content for a particular campaign or purpose.
A focused commission does not require me to become involved in the wider online presence.
-
Yes. I can help selected places and tourism businesses establish a professional website from the beginning.
This may include clarifying the positioning, planning the site structure, developing the written content, creating or selecting original photography and shaping the visual presentation.
Where specialist functionality or custom development is required, that part of the work would need to be handled by an appropriate developer or platform specialist.
-
Yes. Many projects involve substantially refreshing or rebuilding a website that has become dated, unclear or inconsistent.
I can review what should be retained, what is weakening the presentation and how the structure, written content, photography and overall clarity could be improved.
The work may involve selected pages or a complete overhaul, depending on what is needed.
-
It is a practical assessment of how clearly the business explains who it is, who it is for and why people should choose it.
I review the current message, photography, written content, website and overall presentation, then identify the strongest point of difference and the most useful priorities for improvement.
It is particularly helpful when something feels wrong or underdeveloped, but the right solution is not yet clear.
-
No. I do not provide ongoing advertising, broad SEO campaigns or day-to-day social-media management.
My focus is the business’s core presentation: its positioning, message, photography, written content, website and selected communications.
Where wider marketing support is required, I can work alongside the client’s existing team or an appropriate specialist.
-
I am based in Cape Town, South Africa, and undertake selected projects elsewhere where the scope, timing and location are a suitable fit.
Some review, positioning, writing and website work can also be completed remotely.
START A CONVERSATION
Tell me a little about the place or business, what you currently have in place and what you would most like to improve.
You do not need to know exactly which service you require. Your enquiry may concern positioning and messaging, original photography, a written story, website content, a new website or an overhaul of an existing one.
I will review the information and suggest the most useful next step where there appears to be a good fit.
