How I Help

Creative Strategy and Storytelling

I help organisations, places, founders and ventures clarify what makes their work distinctive, shape a coherent story and turn direction into communication people can understand and trust.

From Complexity to Clarity

People form an impression long before they make contact, choose a provider, book, visit or decide to offer support. Often, the substance is there, but its value is difficult to see, explain or trust. Different activities, audiences or opportunities can sit separately, leaving the central story unclear.

I help identify the organising idea, clarify priorities and shape a coherent expression across positioning, story, messages, website, content and visual presentation.

Why This Matters

Clarity affects what happens next. When people cannot quickly understand what you stand for, what makes the work distinctive or why it matters, they may struggle to decide whether to enquire, choose, visit or offer support. The same lack of clarity can make it harder for teams, partners and specialists to communicate or act consistently.

This is why the work goes beyond presentation. It is about creating a clearer basis for decisions, communication and practical action—one that connects the substance of the work with how it is understood from the outside.

Who I Work With

I work with organisations, places, founders and ventures whose substance is meaningful but whose value is not yet being communicated as clearly or coherently as it could be.

This includes distinctive places, lodges, retreats, specialist tour operators, conservation and heritage organisations, wildlife projects, destinations and other experience-led or purpose-led businesses.

Some need a focused review or strategic direction. Others need help carrying that direction into a website, written content, visual presentation or selected photography.

The common thread is not a particular sector, but the need to clarify direction, story, messages or public expression.

HOW I HELP

The work can begin with a focused strategic question, develop into a defined communication project, or continue as an ongoing advisory relationship.

Ways to Work Together

01

Focused Advice and Direction

For organisations, places and ventures that need to step back, clarify what matters and decide what should happen next.

Typical work includes positioning, audience and opportunity clarification, message development and practical strategic priorities.

02

Defined Projects and Online Presence

For clients ready to turn clearer direction into a coherent public presence.

This may include a new website or website refresh, structure, content, written storytelling, visual direction or selected photography, shaped around a clear objective.

03

Ongoing Strategic and Creative Support

For organisations, places and ventures that value experienced judgement as their work develops.

I provide continuity between strategic decisions and practical expression, helping review priorities, guide teams and specialists, and keep communication coherent over time.

Strategic Starting Points

Positioning and Message Review

For an organisation, place, founder or venture whose value is strong but difficult to explain clearly or express consistently.

I review the offer, audiences and distinctiveness, then identify how the central story and key messages should be shaped and expressed.

The outcome is a concise diagnosis, message framework and practical priorities for improving how the work is understood, presented and able to move forward.

Creative Strategy and Implementation Plan

For a more complex situation where the offer, audiences, story and creative expression need to work together.

I clarify the central proposition, priority audiences, organising story, story guidelines, key messages and creative direction, then identify the practical priorities that follow.

The outcome is a coherent strategic framework for carrying the direction into communication, websites, content and selected creative work.

Selected photography and written-story commissions are also available where the brief is clear and the subject is a good fit. These can stand alone or form part of a wider project.

DISCUSS A COMMISSION

A Clear, Considered Process

PROCESS

Every engagement begins by understanding what is already in place, what feels unclear and where focused attention could create the greatest value. The scope is shaped around what is actually needed.

STEP 1

ENQUIRY AND FIT

We begin with a short conversation about your organisation, place or venture, what you want to achieve and where progress may be getting stuck.

STEP 2

REVIEW AND DIRECTION

I review the relevant context and material, then recommend a practical approach setting out the objectives, scope, deliverables, timing and fee.

STEP 3

DEVELOP AND APPLY

Once agreed, the work moves into development: strategy, messaging, content, website direction, visual direction or selected photography as appropriate.

STEP 4

REFINE AND DELIVER

The work is refined against the agreed direction and prepared for use. If further advisory or creative support would add value, a separate next phase can be agreed.

MEET ADAM

Creative judgement backed by business experience

I am a creative strategy and storytelling adviser, writer and photographer. I help organisations, places, founders and ventures clarify what makes their work distinctive and express it with greater coherence.

My approach combines nearly two decades as the chief executive of an international service business, with responsibility across strategy, positioning, service development, operations, technology, governance and communication, with close attention to place, atmosphere, people and detail.

I work independently or alongside existing teams and specialists, providing the level of strategic direction or creative involvement the work requires.

SELECTED WORK

The Approach in Practice

These examples show different parts of the practice: a place story, fine-art photography and writing from the field. They are connected by the same observation, visual judgement and storytelling that inform my strategic and creative work.

01 — Arniston / Waenhuiskrans

A PLACE STORY

An independent photographic and written study of Arniston / Waenhuiskrans, shaped by its atmosphere, history and working harbour.

It shows how observation, original imagery and considered narrative can reveal a place’s distinctive character and shape a richer story.

02 — Fine-Art Photography

Selected fine-art photography exploring wildlife, birdlife, coast and the character of place.

The portfolio reflects the visual judgement, patience and attention to detail that also inform my commissioned and strategic work.

03 — Stories and Perspectives

Writing from the field, with reflections on strategy, storytelling, photography and place.

It extends the same attention to observation, context and meaning that informs my wider creative and strategic work.
