SHEREHE MGUU 🐾

Its powerful claw grips the freshly taken buck as the leopard gingerly tugs and chews on a tender strip of meat.

"Sherehe Mguu" means "feast paw" in Swahili.

There was nothing quite like it. The leopard surprised us suddenly out of the blue, bringing down its meal on the path ahead, catlike, fast, and quick. The moments flew by as the feasting began. As he gnawed on the tender parts, he came to a halt to scan the surroundings for any unwanted attention. The only sounds around us ranged between the occasional cracking of joints and tender licks of the more delicious soft parts of his catch. His enjoyment was obvious; this was the reward of his skills, patience, and hunger.

Shortly, he shifted position, lifting the buck, its innards being left behind, and dragging it with considerable power toward a nearby tree that he had spotted and watched earlier. No hyenas, lions, or other predators were nearby, yet the caution of his experience drew him quickly up to the thorny trunk. With one huge jolt, he ripped upwards, prey between his paws, to the top and safety.
