In a perfect line, each on his own wing, the flamingos come to land on a misty stretch of lagoon.

Misty morning conditions heralded new movement as birds began to awaken to the dawn of a new day. With silent, slow flaps, a line of pink flamingos descends onto the glassy waters of the lagoon to begin their feed. Their sputtering moves churn the fresh water in a trail behind them as they slow down into their last steps. And in a moment, the stillness once again pervades the place of arrival, their beaks preparing to swish through the surface, finding their nourishment from the bank below.

It was a fairly long-distance and fast action shot. I had been watching another species in front of me when the sudden appearance of these flamingos drew my attention. They were literally already on the surface when I briefly swung my lens in their direction, following their landing moment over a few seconds. In that time, one shot captured my attention - this one. I loved the glassy churn and placement of wings, which in many ways epitomise this beautiful species.

Feathered Friends Collection

Welcome to our feathered friends, with their flights of fancy, twitchers' delight, and the lightest touch.

Ever-present in our lives, birds fill the skies, settle in tree branches, and thrive on the ground. Their movements fill us with delight and awe; their silence is broken by delightful songs or anxious craws. This collection celebrates these moments in time with our feathered friends.
