Morning Tides

A characterful fishing boat chugs into the deep sea waters at the start of its sunrise trip.

Heading out to sea, the boat breaks through the phosphorescent layers at the surface, reaching its target: the richer fishing zone off the heads of a nearby jutting rock outcrop. Its small cages, designed for lobster (or crayfish), lie packed, ready for the drops to come. With their traps baited, the fishermen lay them in line at known locations to collect them on their return after fishing for larger pelagic fish species nearby.

Its the tide of seasons, a daily affair - fishers and the sea, living and working in a world that is changing as challenges arise to confront them at every turn, from fish stocks and seafaring factory ships to local politics that abides its influence on permits and rights. Despite these pressures, the local fishermen know their craft and live for these moments as they have from the very beginning.
