The African sundowner unfolded before us with breathtaking serenity reflected by the cry of a circling fish eagle breaking the tranquil amber silence.
As glasses clinked and laughter echoed through the air, their crystal voices harmonizing like an orchestra, we found ourselves amidst one of the most exquisite scenes nature had to offer—sunset in the African bush. Amidst it all, the nearby grunts of hippos gently reverberated in the water, their colossal bodies briefly jostling as they silently observed our presence. We were strangers in their realm, mere visitors, humbled by the magnificence that surrounded us.
It is nearly impossible to capture the essence of such a moment in words. The colors shimmered with vibrant hues, while the ceaseless symphony of shapes and murmurs of conversation shattered the wild, golden silence. Sipping on my sundowner gin and tonic, I found myself in the company of a hyena leisurely strolling past and hippos staring back with their deep, inscrutable eyes. It was a scene that defied description, yet one that begged to be immortalized in my memories.
There was an ineffable tranquility that pervaded the air—a gentle spirit of peace and serenity. It was as if we had entered a realm where vulnerability coexisted harmoniously with complete acceptance and relaxation. In that moment, I couldn't help but contemplate whether this was what nirvana or heaven truly felt like. How could it not be? And yet, it wasn't. It was a hidden gem on Earth, known to few and seen by even fewer. Amidst the clamor of our everyday lives, with minds enslaved by the ticking of clocks and the frenzied urgency of existence, all those concerns faded away. In this fleeting interlude, I reminded myself that if there was one last thought I would cherish in my final moments on this planet, it would be this—the ethereal beauty of that golden hour, a sanctuary of peace and awe in the heart of the African bush.
