Pink Tonic
Imbued pinks set the hue for a sundowner at the V&A Waterfront’s busy harbour.
The V&A Waterfront in Cape Town transforms under the enchanting glow of a pink cocktail sunset, casting a shimmering reflection on the harbour waters. As the day concludes for working ships, an assembly of seabirds circles above. Amidst the more conventional focus on people and tourist landmarks, a fleeting moment unfolded—a spectacle lasting minutes—where the rosy hues of sunset painted the scene before yielding to deeper shades of red and then the onset of night.
The waterfront offers delightful opportunities for exploration and is perhaps most captivating during the golden hour. Venturing beyond the usual realms of touristy captures, I came across this scene, which reflected a harmonious balance between the sky's painted canvas and its rippled reflection dancing on the waters before the docked vessels. In this capture, I looked for the intricate layers - from sea to pier, boats to birds to sky - all enveloped in the delicate embrace of the fading pink hues. This exploration of horizons and layers has become one of my focal points in my photography, set here against the backdrop of the commercial harbour at the V&A.
Living Cities Collection
Welcome to who we are, what we do, and those who live around and with us.
As social creatures, humans have always lived in tribes, building communities based on shared values and beliefs. Within these tribes, humans have created homes and cities, both as a place of shelter and as a reflection of their identity. Humans also have an innate desire to explore the world beyond their immediate surroundings, and our curiosity extends beyond physical exploration as we seek out new experiences and live life in our own domestic spaces. Whether at home or on the move, we are constantly driven to survive, create, or discover the meaning of living.
