On The Hunt

Her sharp opaque green eyes pierced me as she left the shadows for her hunt.
As I walked up to my front door after a long day, a pair of sharp, opaque citrine eyes pierced through the shadows. The cat emerged from the darkness, her eyes glinting in the streetlight, creating a stark contrast against her sleek black fur.
I couldn't help but think, "I wouldn't like to be a mouse right now. Or a shrew, or a bug, or a bird ... or anything really that this cat might find!" Her eyes seemed to look right through me, peering into my soul. It was a bit unsettling, yet fascinating, this unexpected encounter after dark.
Her lithe, almost invisible movement near one of our outside trees caught my attention. Those bright emerald eyes reflected the streetlight, making them stand out against her shadowy figure. She purred softly without breaking her intense stare. It felt as if she was assessing me, perhaps considering my arrival as an imposition on her nightly hunt.
As she moved closer, I noticed the grace in her movements. She was almost ghost-like, gliding silently across the ground. It was clear that she was queen of her domain, a nocturnal hunter perfectly at home in the shadows. Her eyes never left mine, and I felt a strange momentary connection forming between us. It was as if we were sharing something, but I didn’t know what.
She moved slowly towards me, still cloaked in darkness, creating a moment where our two worlds briefly connected. I stood there, carefully taking the moment to capture her look and her presence as this mysterious hunter of the night.
And then, just as suddenly as she appeared, she turned back into the darkness.
One of us returning to the light, the other slipping silently into the night.
