Endless Summer
Out in the distance, two figures broke the stillness.
It was another warm summer day, the kind that stretches lazily between the sky and sea, unhurried, eternal. The rolling lap of small waves bobbed up and down in thousands of tiny, shimmering peaks, catching the sunlight like scattered jewels. A warm, gentle breeze occasionally made its presence known, stirring the scent of salt and distant memories.
Somewhere above, a gull cried out, its call fading into the golden haze, lost in the hush of the ocean’s breath. Out in the distance, two figures broke the stillness, their silhouettes rising from the teal waters. They had swum out, drawn by the quiet promise of the beacon’s solitary perch—its small, weathered platform standing as a lone guardian, guiding fishing boats home to the harbour.
Dripping with the sea, they climbed onto the narrow landing, their bodies framed against the vast stretch of the horizon. They stood for a while, taking in the endless blue that wrapped around them, feeling the sky pressing down in soft pastel hues. Occasionally, soft chatter drifted across the water, barely decipherable, stolen by the lull of the sea.
Then, she moved forward. A slow, deliberate step. A moment of stillness. And then—she leapt.
For a second, she hung between sea and sky, an arc of movement frozen in time, suspended in the perfect infinity of summer. Her dive was effortless, seamless, as if she had always belonged to the ocean. The splash echoed between the pink sky and the blue-green sea, rippling outward, dissolving into the hush of the waves.
And just like that, she was gone, swallowed by the warm embrace of the water. But the moment remained, etched in the air, in the salt, in the lingering golden light of an endless summer.
