Her powerful stride exudes her feline strength and elegance as she follows the pathway to her resting pride.

Matima means “strength” in Tsonga.

The pride of lions rested in the nearby concealment. For days, these lions had doggedly trailed a massive herd of Cape buffalo. Now, they sought refuge from the scorching African sun, conserving their strength for what lay ahead that evening.

She gradually emerged along the well-worn track to join her pride. Her reconnaissance was completed, and her senses were keen and alert. She was the matriarch, and her majestic, swaying gait slowed as she eventually approached her companions. She brought news: the buffalo herd had taken respite further down the gorge, and within their midst, a wounded buffalo they had trailed had grown weaker. This presented an opportunity the lions could not ignore. Yet they were well aware of the buffalo's fearsome reputation as staunch defenders against these apex predators. This challenge demanded more than raw power; it required finesse, patience, impeccable timing, and, above all, unwavering courage. And Matima appeared to possess this in abundance.

That evening, the distant roars of the pride's triumphant kill echoed across the savannah. They had finally managed to take down the much-weakened buffalo, securing a meal for the days ahead. Much like life's other achievements, this victory did not come without the tireless effort of all in the pride. Triumph favours those, like Matima, who possess the discipline and determination to persistently seek and seize opportunities not only for their own betterment but perhaps more importantly for those they support.
