THE SENTRY 👣

Watching for danger, a wild dog pauses to stare back as it guards its pups nearby dining on a kill.

The pack had just taken a small antelope down and as the pups began to eat, the adult wild dogs formed a protective circle on the periphery of the kill. Vigilance at times like this is key. These sentries watch and defend against lions, hyenas and possibly other predators that may pick up on the activity and threaten the pack.

This was one of the first occasions I had the privilege of observing such a special sighting. As the scene unfolded, it was the sentry dogs on the outside that first caught my attention. Their role is to face any danger to their next of kin, and their eyes showed it. This particular shot caught my eye as it touched on one of the wild dogs in a clear display - the formal stance and expression these wild dogs show, and their natural camouflage almost making them melt into the surrounding bush-veld.

RAW AFRICA COLLECTION

Welcome to Africa - the wise, the restless, the life giving.

This soulful land of dreamers gives rise to the underbelly of a beautiful gentle beat that is only heard by those who listen for it. This photographic journey explores, profiles and captures what I hope is the heart and soul of Africa's true wilderness kingdom. From its deep bush to its dry savannah and desert, Africa remains a place where life is represented by timeless vistas that are distilled into moments to treasure.
