HEKIMA
HEKIMA 👣
Her eyes tell the story of her days, of times we will never know.
Hekima means “wisdom” in Swahili. She lay there, here eyes quietly staring at me. For a moment it felt like a transient moment, full of wonderment, sadness, stillness. The air was so quiet around us you could hear a pin drop. She blinked , then continued to share her eyes as I shifted away giving her the peace she asked.
Hekima means wisdom in Swahili. It struck me that despite her prime age she looked at that moment like she had lead a full life, one of many challenges - some good, some not so. I often think we, as humans, are quite funny how we see things. We usually seem to see what we want to see. Yet nature, life and all those animals around us we share time with, go through good and bad days. Our views are so often tempered in a momentary encounter where we frame what we want into a sense that gives us what we yearn - a moment of beauty. An aggression or blood thirst. Or even just our view of perfection. In the end, its our interpretation usually that colours our view of life and moments - what is in front and what is or isn’t happening. Take a moment here, and just imagine her thought of the being in front. What if she could tell you what she is really thinking…
