In the dead of night, a young iron survivor stares back, frozen in time.
If there is one animal that symbolises man’s drive to fight man’s greed, it's the rhino. While small pockets of population remain, many are becoming increasingly invisible in our daily lives. The protection of this species also represents the protection of all species in our kingdom. The grudging extinction of whole species or parts of some is represented by this capture, where the night starkly reminds us of the scarcity of many of our fellow beings. The message has been sent out so many times, so clearly, but do we listen?
This young rhino calf remained very cautious of our presence. Her mother, not far away, gave her the confidence to observe us for a little while before melting away into the thick bush nearby, leaving us with the impression of silence and some sadness with the beauty and reality of what this little calf has to face in days, if not years, to come.
