A Ghost in the Mist.
In the quiet stillness of dawn, the estuary transforms into a dreamlike world, veiled by a dense mist that hangs low over the water. The horizon seems to dissolve into soft shades of grey, where land, sky, and water blur into one seamless expanse. Silence reigns, broken only by the muffled calls of hidden birds, their echoes softened by the fog. It is in this otherworldly calm that a lone flamingo appears, its elegant silhouette gliding across the glassy surface.
The estuary brims with life, much of it unseen beneath the shroud of mist. Shadows of other birds flit in and out of view, their movements fleeting and indistinct. Among them, the flamingo’s deliberate, graceful strides stand out. Its long legs navigate the shallows with precision, while its beak sweeps rhythmically through the water, filtering out shrimp and other microscopic nutrients hidden within. At one point, the flamingo pauses on a sandy bank, momentarily breaking its foraging rhythm. It lifts its head, gazing into the fog as if considering the unseen world beyond. A sharp squawk pierces the stillness, the call of another bird from somewhere in the mist. The flamingo’s posture shifts slightly, its attention drawn to the sound. After a brief pause, it responds with a low, resonant call of its own, its voice carrying softly across the water. Then, as if reassured, it resumes its quiet search for food, tracing the edges of the sandbank with measured intent.
As the morning light begins to strengthen, the flamingo continues its journey. With each slow, deliberate step, it moves further into the mist, becoming one with the ethereal landscape. Its form gradually fades from view until only ripples remain on the water, a reminder of its gentle passage through the scene.
