Pure magic. The hot, late-afternoon sun shares its golden hues and burning tones across an untouched riverscape in the pristine African bush.
The moment seemed to last forever, yet it was only seconds. My eyes were captivated by the space where sky and earth touched gingerly through the overhanging branches, where weavers weaved their baskets many times and with many tales. The silence this day was broken by the occasional grunts of nearby hippos, floating like logs, resting near the fallen remains of a once-flourishing willow tree. Their voices echoing a thousand unchanged seasons in this part of the world.
Beauty like this, is often fleeting. It was in those minutes that I seemed to re-energise my soul, observing as the sunlight turned from gentle yellows to dark, deepening oranges in this twilight period. Getting to see or capture scenes like this in raw nature, always reminds me of how precious time and moments can be. The older I get, the more I feel one doesn’t need all that one desires, has to accomplish in a society that demands your attention continuously, or hangs onto a pattern of habits one just can't break. These scenes have lasted thousands of years, if not more. So finding and keeping a special space should remind us of just how good life is, even without us doing all these things. For me, it brings humility to one's own life and the broader meaning of your time here in this busy world. My wish for you in the year now ahead is to find your space - one that offers peace and mindfulness in your life, even if only for a few minutes here and there. Like the seasons and rhythm of life in nature, there is a time for everything. Make sure yours includes time for yourself.
