PUMZIKA

PUMZIKA 👣

Their heads briefly nuzzle, then they pause and rest them on each other's backs, providing some temporary comfort.

Seeing zebras always inspires me to try to capture their distinctive black and white banded lines in a way that speaks to their affections, trials, or stories. Zebra are one of the most frequently seen animals by many game viewers, yet they carry their own unique character on the stage of the African bushveld. From escaping predators or gently touching their noses in moments of ritual to swishing their tails that signal coded messages or chase off flies, they are a true part of the wildlife of this kingdom.

When I spotted these two zebra, I asked our guide to stop a bit just to observe them. They stood stock still between two thorn trees, eyeing me curiously for a bit, and then seemed to forget our presence. One of the two zebras turned gently, placing his head on the back of his fellow mate. She in turn laid her head to rest on his back, and they remained like that for a short while. It's not uncommon behavior, I'm sure, but I was so pleased with this composition and the moment shared. As the silence of the African bush life settled around us, it seemed to soothe my own soul. Only the soft, occasional swish of their tails to be heard.
