KUJIUNGA

KUJIUNGA 👣

The little one casually strolls over to the adults, her small steps driven by the call of one of the elders.

The herd gathered at the edge of the embankment, gently touching and shifting around. Moments later, the matriarch trumpeted her intent to continue onward into their journey. With the creeping haze slowly wrapping around them, the little ones moved in closer, placing themselves within the safety of the adults. Their gentle reverberations could now be heard as the whole herd started to move forward in unison. The young ones, occasionally touched by the surrounding adults, moved quickly to keep up the rythmic pace the matriarch had set. Passing us, they slowly melted into the haze of the nearby bush, leaving only their giant footprints to remind us of their presence only a short while ago.

Nothing special, yet everything magical.

The African bush is a special place where even the most ordinary can feel magical. Every scene is unique and fleeting, from the peaceful to the thrilling. Watching the elephants do their thing in this serene environment filled me with a sense of peace and time. It reminded me once more of our inherited responsibility to be mindful stewards of the natural world and highlighted the need for me to protect these majestic creatures and their fellow inhabitants. We did not ask for this duty, but as creators of a new world order, it has become our distinct responsibility to maintain and safeguard what can be lost in an instant. So as I grow older and perhaps a little wiser, I take this role more seriously and hope that these portraits resonate with a message that tells of the fragile magic that still exists in our world and needs our protection.
