Elegant Turn

Series: 2 of 3

A majestic egret, its pristine form a picture of grace, ascends into the sky with the fluidity of a seasoned ballerina's pirouette.

In an instant, the elegant bird takes flight, its landing barely registering before its keen eyes notice the subtle stirrings beneath the water's surface - a school of fish darting about in a choreographed dance of survival. Nature, paints this tableau with soft hues, infusing it with bustling life. The egret, a skilled hunter, often stalks its prey in the shallow waters.

On the opposite bank, a spoonbill engages in its own pursuit, its distinctive bill sweeping through the water left to right, and reverse, through the foliage in search of sustenance. Though a different species, these two magnificent creatures share an unspoken camaraderie in their quest for food. The spoonbill's movements stir the small shoal of fish, leading them in a panicked dance, unwittingly towards the egret. Yet, as quickly as they change direction, they retreat to the river's banks, their location observed by the vigilant egret.

Amidst this natural spectacle, my attention is drawn to a nearby kingfisher, its plumage captivating. Yet, it is the white egret that steals the spotlight with its graceful flight and purposeful movements. In this fleeting moment, a decision crystallises in my mind - I must capture this beauty with its landing and takeoff.

Wildlife, like this elegant bird, often sets unpredictability. Yet, through some good timing and luck I catch glimpses into their lives, as I did on that memorable morning.
